Ghost Events
This page will explain what ghost events are, why they are and which there are.
What is a ghost event?
A ghost event is another way the ghost will show itself other than a hunt. Events do not directly interact with the environment, and they vary from physical manifestations to mere mist balls producing sounds upon impact.
Why do they happen?
Ghost events can happen as a result of lowered sanity, making the ghost more active and more likely to interact and attempt events. When the ghost attempts to perform an event, it will check for players within a certain range of the ghost, around 10 meters. If the ghost is successful in finding a player or mutiple players nearby, it will randomly choose one as the ghost events’ target each time. If the ghost chooses to manifest, it will be teleported to near the player first. Ghosts do not teleport for mistball events. An EMF Level 4 will appear at the event, as Level 4 stands for manifestations.
Events can also be triggeres by players, either from drawing the Tarot Card “The Devil”, or through other cursed possessions. Otherwise, events are completely random.
Which types of events are there?
Most events in Phasmophobia are manifestation-related, though not all. Here is an overview of the different events players can encounter during their gameplays.
Manifestaion events:
When a ghost is doing a manifestation event, there are several types of manifestations it can do:
It may stand in one spot and sing, this is called a singing event. Male ghosts will hum an low-tone tune while female ghosts will sing “ring around the rosie”.
If the ghost stands still, one of three things can happen:
The ghost will appear and all lights in the room will turn off.
The ghost will appear, and all lights in the room ill turn on and glow red for the duration of the event.
The ghost will appear, and all lights in the room will flicker (if turned on) and then shatter at the end of the event, rendering the shattered lights useless for the rest of the game.
If the ghost doesn’t stand still, it will chase and walk towards the player it chose, and if it gets close enough, it will disappear and hiss sharply. If enough time has passed and the ghost has not collapsed with a player, it will disappear without any sound.
During events all ghosts have the standard ghost speed of 1.7m/s.
The ghost can manifest in different forms: its full form, a shadow form or a jelly-like form that only shows the ghosts’ outline.
At the start of events, the ghost may close doors, including exits (but without locking them), or turn off lights in the room. During the event, nearby electronics and lights will flicker and malfunction, giving the impression of a real hunt starting.
Non-manifestation events:
The ghost can create an airball in the room the player is currently in, which will follow the player. If the player and airball collide, a hissing sound can be heard and the ball disappears. The player can also run away from the airball if they notice it in time, that will avoid the hissing sound and the sanity drain.
The Airball event goes by many names, such as: “smoke ball”, “ghost ball”, “ghost mist” or simply “mist”.
Sanity drain:
If the ghost event collides with the player, 10% of the players sanity will disappear. And some ghosts may alter those 10%, depending on the type.
